Peterborough Petes finished second at the Regional Northumberland Silver Stick.
The Petes lost a close 2-1 game in the
final to the top-ranked Uxbridge Stars.
Peterborough opened the tournament against Quinte
West. Quinte jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into the second period. DJ Crough
made it a 2-1 game when he tapped in a cross-crease pass from Ethan Lacey.
Cooper Lawson tied the game with an unassisted goal.
Peterborough took the lead late in the
third period when Lacey knocked in a rebound. Drew Stabler and Lawson had the
assists. Peterborough held on for the 3-2 win.
In game two, the Petes faced the Metcalfe Jets. Peterborough was in control for much of the game and walked away with the 3-0 win. Crough, Lawson and Lyndon Jarbeau had Peterborough’s goals, with assists going to Stabler (2) and Joey Donoghue. Quinton Ross earned the shutout.
In the third and final round-robin game, Peterborough met the Kanata Blazers and won 3-0. Stabler opened the scoring for Peterborough, followed by Crough and Andrew Wasson. Assists went to Lacey (2), Cade Dunford, Sam Dickey and Vernie O’Brien. Carter Winter earned the shutout.
Peterborough ended round-robin play in first place in their pool and met Port Perry in the semi-final.
The Petes kept their shutout streak alive and won 5-0. Scoring were Donoghue, Lacey(2), Stabler and Lawson. Assists went to Jarbeau, Josh Watson and Stabler. Winter again had the shutout.
In the final, Peterborough faced the Uxbridge Stars, one of the top teams in Ontario. After a scoreless first period, Peterborough jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Jarbeau scored. Watson had the assist.
Uxbridge tied it up 1-1 and, with only a few minutes remaining in the third, scored the game-winning goal on the power play.
