Jack McVicar Minor Atom AE Petes Fall to Rangers
The Jack McVicar Professional Corporation Minor Atom AE Petes phenomenal playoff run came to an end at the hands of the Oakville Rangers on Friday night (March 24), as the Petes suffered a 3-0 loss in the 5th game of the OMHA final.

The Evinrude Centre was packed with support for the Petes and they didn’t disappoint. The Petes were pushing the play for the first two periods, with Brody Bolton holding strong in net, but just couldn’t manage to get the puck past Oakville’s strong goaltending.

Oakville would manage to open the scoring 5 minutes into the third on a tipped pass from the corner.  The Petes didn’t let the goal hold them back and continued to apply pressure to the Rangers, but a couple of mid-period penalties stalled the comeback and with four minutes left in the final frame, a turnover at the Rangers blue line resulted in a breakaway for the Rangers that put them up 2-0.  With the game in their hands, the Rangers collapsed their defensive zone and thwarted the Petes last ditch efforts to get back into the game.  With less than a second left on the clock, a Rangers clearing shot made it’s way down the ice and found the Pete’s empty net to give them the 3-0 win and an OMHA championship.

The part of the night that will likely be remembered most by fans from both teams was the great sportsmanship shown by these two teams. Following the trophy presentations, the Oakville coaches invited the Petes to have a picture taken with their team and the Petes followed this up by saluting the Rangers and creating an archway for them to skate under as they left the ice. These two teams proved that there are more than hockey skills learned out on the ice and it was a proud moment for all parents to see that these kids could battle so hard during the game and still respect one another after the final whistle.

The Petes team would like to thank all of our sponsors – in particular our main sponsors – Jack McVicar Professional Corporation, Edge Group, Ricart Promotions and Recognition and Peterborough this Week. We would also like to thank all the parents and the Peterborough hockey community for all the support we had in this highly successful season.
