FCI Windows Atom AA Petes go 3-0 in weekend play
The FCI Windows atom AA Peterborough Petes opened up 2018 on a winning note.

With the Christmas break over, the team was back on the ice Friday (Jan. 5) to face Northumberland.

Peterborough jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and 6-0 after two periods of play. While Northumberland was able to score twice in the third period, Peterborough would go on to win 9-2.

On Saturday, the Petes hosted the Clarington Toros.

The Toros struck first and scored halfway through the first period. In the second frame, Peterborough came on strong but were held off the scoresheet for much of the period. However, the Petes finally scored twice late in the period to go ahead 2-1.

In the third, Peterborough added two more goals to win 4-1.

On Sunday, the Petes hosted Whitby at the Evinrude Centre. The Petes scored 10 seconds into the game to open a 1-0 lead and made it 2-0 with a goal early in the second period. Whitby was able to pull within a goal, before the Petes regained their two-goal lead late in the second period.

In the third frame, Whitby pulled their goalie as time was winding down and were able to score to make it a 3-2 game.

However, Peterborough then made it 4-2 with an empty-net goal. They would score once more with five seconds remaining.
The Petes are in Belleville for a Wednesday night (Jan. 10) game, then head to Sarnia this weekend for the Silver Stick Finals tournament. The team earned the right to compete at the tournament after winning the Silver Stick Regional in Georgina in November.
