Push for First in their Division
The Peterborough Novice AA Under Armour Petes had 2 crucial games this past weekend. If they could win both games, their final 2 games of the regular season, they would lock up first place in their division.

The first game was in Belleville on Saturday. The Petes were looking to bounce back from their loss against Kingston the previous weekend. And they got off to a great start. Less than a minute into the game, Kekki got the puck from Reid, and buried it in the back of Belleville’s net. Belleville didn’t let them hold the lead for long though; they were determined to tie it up and got one past Davies late in the first. In the second, Peterborough really began to showcase their ability to move the puck through the middle of the ice. Fuller went end to end to score one, unassisted, followed up with another by Vincent from Buchner. Again, Belleville battled back and reduced the Petes lead to one going into the third. Belleville got the jump in the third and tied it at 3 early. The Petes were determined though; Gillespie skated the puck out of his own end and sent it towards the net, for Reid to bury the rebound. This put the Petes up by one, and Gillespie ensured the victory with another rush from his own end and a shot into Belleville’s empty net. McIntyre got caught twice for slashing in the third during hard fought battles.

Sunday, the PetesMar_1.20.JPG faced off against Whitby, who they hadn’t seen since their first game of the regular season. The pressure was on, as Whitby was their toughest opponent, and first place would most likely belong to the winner of this game. The Petes started out strong, carrying the momentum from their game the day before. Vincent opened the scoring, unassisted early on. In the second, Whitby countered by getting one past Xuereb. The teams were tied 1-1 going into the third. A tie in this game would ensure first place, however the Petes didn’t want to settle for that. They put on the pressure in the third, scoring two goals in the first 6 minutes – one unassisted by Kekki, and the other by Simpson from Marshall. Whitby tried to battle their way back by scoring one shortly after the Petes, however it wasn’t’ enough. The Petes went on to score another, Kekki from Werry, to solidify the win. They won 4-2 and for the first time this season, not one of the Petes made their way into the penalty box.

With the season over, and a first place finish, the Petes are now preparing for their year end tournament in Kingston March 13-15.

1, 2, 3…..Petes!!!
