Bantam AE Petes Win Gold at Lake Placid
Peterborough Trent Valley Honda Bantam AE Petes went to “Olympic Town” Lake Placid, NY this past weekend and came home with the Gold!

After winning the first two games of the round robin shutting out both opponents, the Bantam AE Petes tied the final round robin game in a highly contested bout against Cornwall 2-2. A record of 2-0-1 earned home team in the Gold medal game where the Petes would once again face a well talented Cornwall team.

The gold medal game was played on the 1980 pad of the Olympic Ice Centre – where the 'Miracle on Ice' of the 1980 Olympics occurred. There was great end-to-end intense action for this entire game leading to a 0-0 first period then Cornwall scored halfway through the 2nd to lead 1-0. The Petes battled back to tie the game at one late in the 2nd. Cornwall then scored early in the 3rd to regain the lead at 2-1. The Bantam AE Petes never quit and sent the game into overtime scoring with just 49 seconds left in the 3rd. After a 5 minute sudden victory overtime with 4 minutes of it pressing in the Cornwall end, the game went to a shootout to decide the eventual winner. After 4 rounds of shooters the game was still not resolved when in the 5th round of shooters, The Petes shot last and scored to secure our place as gold medal champions!

In the encouraging words of our coach Shawn “Herb Brooks” Tucker: “Who do you play for?” to which our boys echoed throughout the rafters of the Olympic Centre at every game… “The PETES!” – The Olympic spirit lives on…..

Congratulations PHA Bantam AE Petes!
