Kawartha Metals Win Heritage Classic
The Kawartha Metals Minor Bantam RS Petes go undefeated 5-0 to capture "A" division Championship at the Heritage Classic

This past weekend the Kawartha Metals Minor Bantam Petes competed in the Oshawa Heritage Classic. This years Heritage Classic would bring on some familiar competition plus a couple new competitors. In game 1 the RS Petes would face a familiar opponent, the Burlington Bulldogs. After defeating Burlington 4-3 two weeks ago at the Blue and Gold Classic Kawartha Metals would play strong and defeat them once again this time by a score of 4-1. Up next was a new opponent the Rosedale Devils who would go stride for stride with the Petes but at the end it was the strong play of Max VanParys in net leading the Petes to a 4-0 shutout win. On Saturday morning the Petes would face Markham Waxers and would come away with a 3-2 hard fought win. Game 4 would bring on the Duffield Devils team that played hard all tournament but only had one tie to show for their efforts and would end up losing to the Petes 8-1. With the round robin now over and the Petes holding a 4-0 record it was off to the "A" final and our opponent would once again be the Burlington Bulldogs. As both teams lined up you could just tell this one was going to be a good one. It would be the Bulldogs who would strike first with a shorthanded goal and the first period would end with the Petes down 1-0. The second Period would belong to Peterborough scoring 2 goals to take a one goal lead into the 3rd. The third period would be a hard fought battle with no goals in the first eight minutes. With the Burlington net empty the Petes would go on to score 2 empty net goals and go on to a 4-1 victory for the "A" Championship. This Tournament win was a total team effort. Special Thanks to Stewart Rees who has a broken Fibula but was there every step of the way to cheer his teammates on for the victory.
