Havelock Metal Novice AA Petes Celebrate 2nd Championship of the Season
The Havelock Metal Novice AA Petes have captured their 2nd straight tournament Championship after clinching the Oshawa Minor Hockey Tournament this past weekend.

On Friday afternoon, the boys opened the tournament playing a tough Clarington Toro squad who were able to disrupt the Petes strongest weapon, their passing.  The Petes however, were able to use their speed, strength and determination to rally past the opposition 6-0.  Ryder Perry had 3 goals; Nole Faulkner had a goal and an assist with lone tallies going to Wil McFadden and Drew Calderwood. Landon Smelt was strong in net and recorded the shutout.

The Georgina Blaze was the next team on the schedule for the Petes on Friday evening.  This was arguably the best start to a game for the Petes this year.  The boys came out flying and controlled the play from the first minute. Wil McFadden picked up a hat trick while Kaydn Farrugia had 2 goals and an assist. Michael Hancock and Drew Calderwood both chipped in with single markers. Dawson Corfe was a strong set up man recording 3 helpers. Landon Smelt had a solid performance in net with the shutout.

On Saturday morning, the Petes handled the Caledon Hawks with ease beating them 9-1.  DJ Crough had a hat trick and Ryder Perry had 2 goals and 2 assists. Hancock had 1 goal and 2 assists, Calderwood added one Gino and Cooper Lawson picked up 3 assists.

On Saturday afternoon, the Petes laced up the skates against the Pickering Panthers.  Although the Petes outshot Pickering by 32 shots, they ran into a hot Panther goaltender.  The Petes were able to get a few past him prevailing 4-0.  Michael Hancock picked up 2 goals, with singles going to Dawson Corfe and Ryder Perry. Reed Chamberlain had 2 assists. Nick Fournier was a wall in between the pipes picking up the shutout.

The Havelock Metal AA Petes faced off against the Clarington Toros in the Semis early Sunday morning.  The Petes scored 33 seconds into the game but couldn’t get another until late in the second.  The Toros played a tough physical game which is what the Petes expected.  The Petes rallied and paved their way to the finals beating the Toros 5-1, thanks to a beauty of a goal by Reed Chamberlain.  Wil McFadden had 2 goals and an assist, DJ Crough and Kaydn Farrugia had singles. Nickolas Fournier surrendered his first goal of the season which ended an amazing 8 game shutout streak.

In the Championship game, the Petes met a hungry Georgina Blaze team that wanted revenge. The boys had nothing left in the tank playing their 7th game in 5 days however found a way to get it done winning 3-0.

Coach Mike Farrugia noted “I’m extremely proud of these kids. Individually we were tired but being a close team we shared the load. It's amazing to see the kids play for one another and pick each other up".

Goals in the final game came from Nole Faulkner, Reed Chamberlain and Wil McFadden. Charlie Mundell, who was fighting a stomach bug, played an outstanding game on the backend. Chayse Scott played a phenomenal game and was commended by earning game MVP.  Landon Smelt and Nick Fournier split duties with the shutout.
