Jack McVicar Minor Atom AE Petes Advance to Semi-Finals
The Jack McVicar Minor Atom AE Petes spent the Family Day weekend playing some exciting hockey and pulling out a big win over the Whitby Wildcats to move onto the OMHA semi-finals.

The Petes weekend began with a thrilling Saturday afternoon game in Whitby. The Petes trailed on the scoreboard for most of the game, and after killing six minutes of penalties in the third, were finally able to tip the momentum in their favour when Riley Hagerman knocked home a late goal to tie the score at 3.  Overtime saw the Petes assert their dominance over the Wildcats, but strong goaltending kept the game tied until Cole Scanlan gave the Petes their first lead of the game when he netted the winner with 1 minute left.

Other goals for the game came from Archer Stalteri and Sawyer Spencley, while assists went to Caeden Kent (2), Griff Coupland and Spencley. Brody Bolton was strong in net for the Petes and picked up the win.

With the Petes leading the series 5 points to 3, they returned home Sunday afternoon with a chance to close out the series. Whitby opened the scoring early in the first period and the game remained 1-0 until the Petes finally broke through with a goal from Tobey Skopelianos in the opening minute of the third period. For the second day in a row the game went into overtime, but this time Whitby managed to pull out the win and send the series to 6th and deciding game. Bradley Montgomery was solid in goal for the Petes.

The series would be settled with an early evening Family Day showdown. The atmosphere was electric and players on both teams looked focused and ready to go. Whitby managed to open the scoring on the first shift of the game, but this seemed to light a fire for the Petes who responded with a Tristan Lehmann goal less than two minutes later and from there proceeded to dominate the hockey game, with Whitby not registering a shot on goal for 28 straight minutes.  The Petes pulled ahead on a second period goal from Archer Stalteri and Lehmann provided some insurance with his second of the game late in the third.  Whitby would not go away easily though and managed a late goal in the third period that caused things to get tense. Peterborough found themselves up by one and killing off a penalty for the last two minutes of the game, where Brody Bolton stood tall in net and his teammates managed to block a half dozen shots, allowing the Petes to hold on for a 3-2 win and clinch a berth in the OMHA semi-finals.  Assists during the game went to Olivia Mercer, Tobey Skopelianos, Tye Hill, Jordan Garfat, Riley Hagerman and Adam Revak.

The Petes open their next series on Saturday (Feb. 25) in Stouffville and return home Sunday (Feb. 26) for a 3:00 game at the Evinrude Centre.
