Kawartha Metals Midget AA Petes showed well at Pembroke Silver Stick
We participated in the Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Dec.2-4 and had a great team weekend!
Our first game Friday night was with Kanata Blazers in a very high tempo and competitive game where the Petes played a strong team game but came up short in a 4-2 final result.
On Saturday we started the day with game 3 against Eastern Ontario Cobras with a scoreless first period then a tight second period where we netted a couple late in the 2nd and E.O. Cobras broke into the scoring in the final seconds of the period to make it 2-1 at the end of the 2nd. The 3rd period was hard fought end-to-end action until we sealed the game with an empty netter in the last 30 seconds of the game for a 3-1 win.
Saturday evening saw game 3, a must win to advance to the semis on Sunday, and the Petes were up to the challenge playing our league opponents Northumberland where the Nighthawks were sitting with a 2-0 lead after two periods of play earning a goal each in the first and second periods. The Petes came back and tied the game at two early in the 3rd and a battle to the finish was on but some tough calls had us short on the ice and Northumberland (the eventual tournament winner) was able to capitalize and we lost game three 4-2.
Our net minders; Colton Walker and Andrew Leonard both played strong and anchored the team throughout the weekend.
The Silver Stick weekend was a great display of team play, effort and determination for our team - well done!
