The Peterborough Circul-Air Corp Atom A Petes captured the Peterborough Hockey Association Team Builder Atom A Championship over the weekend in impressive fashion. The Petes posted five consecutive wins to skate their way to victory.

The Petes opened the tournament posting a 6-2 win over the Toronto East Enders Ticats. Tristan Lehmann and Vernie O’Brien led the way with two goals a piece with singles going to Owen Leahy and Zander Clark. Carter Winter played a strong game in net for the Petes.

Game two pitted the Petes against the South Stormont Selects. Andrew Wasson got the puck rolling for the Petes as he scored the only goal in the opening frame. The Petes came out strong in the second period scoring four consecutive goals, led by two goals from Carter Christensen and singles scored by Drew Stabler and Lehmann. The third period was much of the same as Griffith Coupland and Clark closed out the scoring.

Game three had the Petes take on the undefeated Nepean Raiders where the Petes prevailed 4-1 on the strong goaltending of Carter Winter. Scoring for the Petes were Christensen with two goals, Sawyer Spencley with one, and the goal of the tournament by Owen “O-Dog” Leahy with a beautiful individual effort taking on four defenders before slipping the puck between the goaltender’s legs.

The Petes were seeded first after the round robin play and faced off against Stormont in the semi-final game winning 7-1. Leahy continued his dominance scoring two goals and four assists capping off a six -point game. Singles went to Christensen, Stabler, O’Brien, Coupland, and Lehmann, securing Peterborough a spot in the final against The Toronto East Ender Ticats.

In the final Peterborough got off to a 1-0 start in the first period on a goal by Sawyer Spencley. Drew Stabler made it 2-0 for the Petes, before Toronto came back to score a goal to make it 2-1. With one-minute remaining in the second and the Petes short handed, Drew Stabler blew by two defenders, had a breakaway from centre ice and riffled a shot past the Ticat goaltender giving the Petes a 3-1 lead going into the third period. Peterborough continued to apply the pressure and dictate the pace of the game scoring three more times on goals by Clark, Coupland, and Christensen to give the Petes a 6-2 victory and the Championship Trophy that was presented to the Circul-Air Corp Petes team captain Cade Dunford.
