Welcome to Minor Peewee RS
Hi There

My name is Pat Marren.   I have been awarded this year the Minor Peewee Roster Select team.  I would like to give you some information about the upcoming roster select year but first I want to thank last years’ coaches for doing a great job (Mark Westlake, Derek McCrossen, Todd Kuipers, Chris Starling).  Being away from this group of kids for a year I really noticed a difference during this year’s rep tryouts.

A little about myself.  I have been a coach within the House League since my son has been playing.  I have also been an assistant coach for the Roster Select program since Novice but last year I was an Assistant Coach for the Atom AE white team.  Having that one year in the rep program I was able to see not just our organization but what other organizations do to prepare our kids for more competitive hockey.  My philosophy is very simple I want our kids to want to play and enjoy this great sport when they get older and want to play as an adult.  I plan on selected a competitive team which will be based on fair play and development.

Through the tryouts I will have 2-3 independent evaluators.  They will not have any affiliation with our Team, age group and a couple of them have no affiliation with the PHA.  I am looking for hockey skill with Skating, stick handling, passing, shooting & game play.  I am also looking for kids that are coachable and not drill killers in practice.  I have seen 17 kids on the ice and if 2 of them are a disruption it consumes to much coach time and team time away from development and I won’t have it.

I will be looking for volunteers for Assistant Coaches, Trainers & a Manager.  At this point because of being away for a year I have no staff in mind.  The bottom line is that this makes this try out about the kids first and the coaching staff will be filled out afterwards.  If you are interest, feel free to let me know.

My goal is to have a consistent weekly practice away from to weekends.  To achieve this, we need to have a non-prime ice time or out of town ice.  My choices are either early morning mid week practice (before school) or later out of town practice.  If your child makes the team, please be aware of this.  Also cost will be from $750-$800 split into 6 payments (September to February).  The cost includes approx. 15 games, 3 tournaments, weekly practice, Skill development & power skating (still working on these details).   First payment will be due at Parent meeting and at the end of the year the surplus will be distributed evenly.

As for team name we will be know as the PHA Selects.  We will run with one jersey this year which will be the cream colour with matching socks and there is a cost which we have to work out either have it paid separately or worked into our monthly fee.

Tryout Times (No Cost)

Unfortunately, there is going to be kids that I will have to cut.  The worst part of the job!!  What makes it more difficult is that we are all part of the same House league and will be seeing each other every week possibly.  I don’t take these decision lightly and this is not a personal decision I have to select a group of kids  I feel will be the combination to be as competitive as we can.  I will be open to discussion after selections if you wish.

Last item is who is eligible to play Roster Select.    There is a residence rule

https://peterboroughhockey.com/Pages/1522/PHA_Centre_Point_-_Right_of_Choice/

or

The OMHA has made a rule adjustment allowing any child that has played two consecutive years in an organizations House League in the third year they are eligible to play and to be rostered with Roster Select.

Sorry for such a long winded message and I look forward to seeing everyone on the ice.

Any questions let me know

Thanks

Patric Marren
