Atom AA Make Ajax Semi Final
The Atom AA Pete’s took part in the Ajax Break the Ice Tournament this passed weekend. After working hard in August with power skating the team was set to play their first games of the season.  They faced off vs. last seasons league runner up Oshawa Generals in their first game of the season Thursday night.  Although the Pete’s outplayed the Generals for a good portion of the game they were unable to solve the Generals net minder and were shutout 5-0 in the opining game.

The team bounced back Friday vs. the host Ajax Knights.  The out worked their opponent’s and came out with a close 4-3 victory.  Caiden Rogers opened the scoring with a solid short handed, unassisted effort.  Other scoring came from Travis Heffernan with two and Aedan Temple netting a single.  Assists came from Jack Davies and Kate Belk.

Saturday morning the team faced off vs. 2018 York Simcoe league champions Stouffville Clippers.  This was the team’s third game of the season and they team really started to gel and come together.  All the lines and players were working hard as a team and they completely outworks and overwhelmed their opponents taking a 5-3 final .  The Pete’s were lead by Hunter Young and Heffernan with two goals each and Kaleb Jamieson with a single marker.  Assists went to Belk and Blake Moncrief with two, Cameron Reynolds, Blayden Davis, Temple, Rogers and Casey Richardson with singles.

The team finished second and moved on to the semi finals only to have rematch vs. the same Stouffville clippers they beat in the round robin.  Stouffville came out for revenge and got an early 3-0 lead on the Pete’s.  However the kids battled back to make a game of it,  but came up just short with a final 3-2 score.  Belk scored the first goal of the come back effort on the power play with assist from Davies and Heffernan.  Then Rogers sprung Hunter Young on a shorthanded breakaway, and after Hunter finishing it off with the goal, the Pete’s were within one.  They just ran out of time and were unable to get the even up goal.

Antonio Bianco and Nathan Sorichetti played outstanding in goal all weekend, bailing out the team many times, keeping the leads and scores close with key saves when needed.

The next action for the Atom AA team is Friday morning when they kick off the Peterborough AA tournament.
