Service Master Restore Minor Peewee AE Petes Come up Short in Series Opener
The Service Master Restore Minor Peewee AE Petes travelled to Belleville on Saturday (February 2) to open their OMHA playoff series against the Belleville Bulls. In what turned out to be a tight battle from start to finish, the Petes fell short and spotted the Bulls an early two-point lead in the race to six points.

After a shaky first period, which looked like both teams were trying to iron out some nerves, the Petes managed to take the lead in the mid second period on a power play from Sam Dickey, off of assists from Sawyer Spencley and Olivia Mercer.

The Petes lead would hold until early in the third, when Belleville managed to put a wraparound past Adam McGinn and pull even. The Petes put their foot back on the pedal and pulled ahead moments later when Riley Hagerman beat the Bulls netminder with a screened shot from the faceoff dot, with an assist going to Josh Watson. The Petes lead wouldn’t last long as only seconds later the Bulls blasted a shot from the point that found its way through traffic and into the back of the Petes net.

With the game all tied up and nearing the dying minutes of regulation, it seemed like both teams were playing cautious, with a lot of neutral zone battles, just waiting for the other team to make a mistake. Unfortunately on this day, it would be the Petes that cracked and made the critical mistake. After a turnover at the Petes blue line, the Bulls were rewarded with a breakaway that would result in game winning goal. Although the Petes didn’t pack things up and pressured hard in the final two minutes, they just couldn’t find the tying goal and came up a goal short when the final buzzer sounded.

The Petes will play host to the Bulls on Tuesday night (Feb. 5) and are hoping the home ice crowd will give them the edge in what’s expected to be another tight game.

The Petes would like to thank S.J. Harford Home Construction for their sponsorship this season.
