On Saturday, the Novice A Pete's headed to
Oshawa for their first regular season game. They were pumped and ready for
the ice. As this was the first time playing Oshawa, the players
knew they needed to make an impression and bring the heat to this arena ('cuz
it's colder than Northcrest!)
The Pete's wasted no time getting into their warm up drill and showing everyone what an organized, well oiled machine they were. It was obvious to all the spectators, they were ready for this game and would be giving 100%!
The game was fast paced and intense. Within the first 30 seconds, Pete's had scored and were hungry for more. Another 30 seconds, and Oshawa had tied it up. That was enough to snap our players into high gear. The passing became focused and players kept their heads up. Many strong passes in front as the forwards brought an intense fore-checking game.
The shifts were quick 1 min bursts and the players shot out of the gate like lightening. A spectator from the other team was overheard exclaiming, "wow, this team is fast" and they were!
In the second half, both goalies had their eyes on the prize and let not ONE goal in to make it a double shut out. The players did not even appear tired and worked with as much intensity throughout the entire game as they did in the first 5 minutes. The defense was relentless and let nothing get past them as they protected their goalies and made clear and precise passes to their players on the wings. The wingers held their positions and were first to the puck every time. You could feel the energy in the stands as the Pete's made goal after goal.
What a game! We hope to bring this much energy to our next game in 2 weeks. Go Petes!
