Peterborough Welding Services Peewee A Petes See Success Over Holidays
Following a brief few days off to open a few presents and consume a few turkey dinners, the Peterborough Welding Services Peewee A Petes traveled to Ottawa to take part in the Bell Capital Cup, an International tournament that showcased teams from all over the world including entries from Finland and Korea.

The Petes opened the tournament with a convincing 4-1 win over the Oswego Buccaneers and they completed day one play with a hard fought 1-1 draw against the Owen Sound Jr. Attack.  Early morning action on the freezing rain filled second day, saw the Petes fall 3-1 to the Ottawa Sting, but a great bounce back performance in the afternoon allowed them to advance to the quarterfinals as they beat the Syracuse Blazers AA team 3-1.

At the completion of the games on day two, the teams got to have a little fun as the tournament put on a skills competition that allowed all teams to compete head to head in various competitions including a 3 on 1 powerplay, shootout, accuracy shooting, agility skating and relay race. The Petes were in fine form, winning the 3 on 1 powerplay and finishing in the top 3 in most of the other events.

With the skills competition out of the way, it was back to business in the quarter-finals as the Petes lined up for an early morning re-match with the Ottawa Sting. It looked like the multiple nights in the hotel had caught up with the Petes as the Sting controlled play early in the game and opened the scoring only minutes into the game.  However, the Petes were determined to get back into the game and momentum started to swing their way as they pushed for the equalizer. After a key 5 minute penalty kill in the third period, it seemed that Peterborough was going tie things up, but an empty net goal by the Sting put the game out of reach as the Petes dropped a 2-0 decision.

To round out the holidays, the Petes schedule included a busy weekend of league play which saw them ring off back to back wins against Pickering (5-1 and 6-1), before a tough Sunday night matchup with the Whitby Wildcats (Blue).

The Petes seemed to be inspired by the epic Canadian win at the World Juniors, as they mounted a comeback of their own.  After spotting Whitby a pair of second period goals, the Petes turned things up a notch as they scored late in the second period and then took the win with a pair of third period goals.

This was the Petes sixth straight win in league play and a record of 8-1-1 over their last ten games has seen the Petes secure a 5th place finish.  The Petes have one last home game (Saturday, January 11 – 8:45 @ Kinsmen) against the Ajax Knights before getting playoffs under way.

The Petes would like to thank a few of our great sponsors for their support this season:
