Last night,
the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes played host to the Oshawa General. The Petes were looking to change the trend in
the series in which neither team has won against each other on their home
ice.
Introduction Audio Track: Cottage Toys
The first period started off slow for the Petes as the Generals came out with all guns firing. The Generals would take control of the first period keeping the puck in the Petes zone for most of the time getting multiple scoring opportunities. The Generals would get rewarded for their efforts and score two goals in the period to take a 2-0 lead going into the second period.
The second period was more of the same with the Generals controlling the play in the Petes zone. The Generals would also increase their body contact play to an attempt to bait the Petes into a physical game instead of a skilled game. This was affective for the Generals as they kept the Petes off the score board and would again get rewarded for their efforts scoring two more goals to take a 4-0 lead going into the third period.
The third period was a different story. The Petes inspired to turn the game around hit the ice running and took back control of the game from the starting faceoff. The Petes upped the tempo of the game, winning the races to the loose pucks, and overwhelmed the Generals with their speed and skill. The Petes would score early in the period to break the shutout making the score 4-1. Shortly after the Generals with only limited chances in the period to that point would score a goal to restore their four goal lead. The Petes not detoured by this would continue to dominate the period and would score again to make the score 5-2. Then the Generals feeling the pressure took a head contact penalty which gave the Petes a powerplay opportunity. After a Petes timeout the game resumed and the powerplay went to work getting multiple chances to score. The powerplay would prove too much for the Generals and the Petes put the puck in the net making the score 5-3. With time running out in the game and the Petes carrying the momentum the Petes pulled Carter K. in favour of the additional player to try and get a fourth goal. The Generals however would take advantage of a turnover high in their own zone and seal the deal with an empty net goal.
The final score would be 6-3 loss to the Oshawa Generals.
