Last night the
Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes met up with the Whitby Wildcats for game four
of their eight game season series. With
the season series currently 2-0-1 in favour of the Peterborough, the Petes were
looking to continue their success versus the Wildcats. And energized by being able to wear their new
white jerseys the Petes were eager to get onto the ice and get the game
started.
The game started with the Petes taking full control of the first period. The Petes pushed the pace and opened the scoring 3 minutes into the game. After outshooting the Wildcats in the period, the Petes were able to net their second goal and took a 2-0 lead into the second period.
To try and change the momentum of the game the Wildcats opted to switch their goalie at intermission. This however only had a short-term effect as the Wildcats were able to finally get some quality scoring chances but the Petes goalie Carter k. was up to the challenge turning away every attempt the Wildcats were able to muster. The Petes would weather the storm and once again take back control of the game and dominate puck possession time. To regain back momentum the Wildcats responded in a physical way but were quick to be accessed two penalties that the Petes powerplay would take full advantage of and score two goals to increase their lead to 4-0 by the end of the second period.
In the third period an inspired Wildcats team took to the ice after the flood. Whitby would control most of the play within the Petes zone for the first six minutes of the period as they tried to get back into the game but were unable to beat Carter K. who was rock solid in net. The Petes with limited chances to score at that point were able to take advantage of one of them an extend the lead to 5-0. Whitby though determined to change the tides and make a game of it fought back and within a two-minute span scored twice making the score 5-2. The Petes then realized quickly that Whitby wasn’t going to lie down and take the loss easily, so they stepped up their game defensively and shutdown the Wildcats and sealed the deal with an empty net goal. The final result was a 6-2 victory for your hometown Petes.
