Game Results: Game @ Belleville Jr. Bulls
Last night the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes had a late game in Belleville vs the Bulls.  With weather being miserable earlier in the day, and the distance to travel being so far, the game was in jeopardy of being cancelled.   However, the hockey gods would shine on the Petes and by departure time the storm would pass only leaving snow covered roads for our dedicated Parents to navigate.  With everyone arriving safely and the surprise of new maroon jerseys for the team, the table was set for an epic battle between the Bulls and the Petes. This was the fourth meeting between the two teams and the Petes were determined to learn from their previous games, change the outcome, and shock the Bulls.

With new maroon jerseys on, the Petes took to the ice for the first period.  After a great warmup the game started with the Petes dominating the play, and within fifty-three seconds, opened the scoring with a great passing play and a shot from the slot that blew by the goalie.  The Petes would continue to control the play late into the period until a breakdown in the Petes zone resulted in the Bulls getting a lucky goal tying up the score at 1-1.  Sticking to the game plan the Petes were not rattled by the goal and applied the pressure on the Bulls.  The Bulls would then end up getting a penalty which proved costly as the Petes powerplay took control of the puck in the Bulls zone.  And with great puck movement, from down low to up high, the Petes got a shot from the point which led to a  great tip redirecting the puck past the Bulls goalie.  The Petes would carry a 2-1 lead going into the second period.

Full of confidence the Petes continued their success into the second period.  The Petes out battled the Bulls for the puck in Belleville’s zone and with a little over nine minutes left in the period scored a beautiful goal with a redirection in front of the net that placed the puck over the Bulls goalies’ shoulder to extend the lead to 3-1.  Belleville not used to being in this position had to dig deep and try to regain some momentum.  The Bulls desperate to score took every opportunity they had to put shots on the Petes net and generate scoring chances off of a scramble.  The Bulls would be rewarded for their efforts and get a goal making the score 3-2.  The Petes would then end up finding themselves in penalty problems and for a short duration awarding the Bulls a 5 on 3 powerplay.  However, with some outstanding penalty killing, the Petes were able to keep the Bulls from scoring and weather the storm.  The second period ended with the Petes taking a 3-2 lead into intermission.

Knowing that this could possibly be the last game of the year or even the season, the Petes hit the ice focused, and ready to leave everything out on the ice to secure the victory.  Belleville, also not willing to lie down, showed up to play in the third period which resulted in some great play in both ends of the rink.  With both teams getting quality scoring opportunities, the TSN turning point was a huge glove save by Adam M., who robbed the Bulls of what should have been a for sure goal from their player standing alone in the slot.  Motivated by the save, the Petes stepped up for their goalie and took control of the remainder of the game.  With under seven minutes left the Petes netted another beautiful goal making the score 4-2.  The Bulls would end up pulling their goalie late in the period in an effort to score, but it was not going to happen on this night as the Petes were able to shut the door and seal the deal.  With a final score of 4-2, the "Mighty Maroon and White" were victorious and handed the Bulls their first loss of the season!

Way to go Petes!  It was a great team victory!
