Warriors Tournament - Game #1 vs Loyalist Jets
This past weekend the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes travelled to St. Catharines and competed in the Warriors Tournament.  This would be a three-day tournament and the Petes would face the following teams in the round robin: Loyalist Jets, Ingersoll Express, Halton Hills Thunder, and the West Grey Warriors.  The Petes were scheduled to play two games on Friday, followed by two games on Saturday to determine which teams would continue onto Sunday’s semi-finals and final game.  This was the Petes only tournament this year due to Covid cancellations so the everyone was excited about the opportunity to play some different teams.

The Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes first game of the Warriors Tournament was versus the Loyalist Jets at the Ridley College arena.  The Jets are a team based out of the Belleville/Kingston area.  The Jets entered the tournament with regular season record of (10-16-0) (wins-loses-ties).

The game started with both teams getting a feel for each others game.  It wasn’t long though before both teams would get acquainted physically and create some scoring chances.   Both teams would end up with penalties during the first period.  The first penalty was assessed to the Petes and the penalty kill units were put to the test.  After a successful kill the Petes powerplay would get their opportunity to make a difference in the game.  The Petes would be successful and score to take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

The second period was filled with action and scoring as both teams had their skating legs going.  The Petes would be the first to bulge the twine scoring twenty-seven seconds into the period to take a 2-0 lead.  The Petes though would run into some penalty problems and the Loyalist Jets took advantage and scored a powerplay goal of their own.  With momentum on the Jets side, they followed up with an even strength goal to tie the game 2-2.  Then two minutes later both teams would end up scoring a goal each and the score was 3-3 at the end of the second period.

With no flood or intermission, the Petes had to regroup quickly and get back to work.  The Petes took control of the period from the faceoff and put the pressure on the Jets.  The Jets would end up taking two penalties in the period and would pay the price.  On the second powerplay the Petes would score to take the lead.  The Petes then shutdown the Jets and were rewarded with the 4-3 victory.

It was an exciting game to open the tournament.  The Petes were tested and stood up to the challenge!
