Cambium Consulting and Engineering U13AA Peterborough Petes capture gold at the Oshawa Minor Generals Hockeyfest Tournament!

“It was a total team effort this weekend,” stated Jeffery Merrick, Head Coach.  “The entire coaching staff is extremely proud of the effort put forth by each and every member of the team.” 

The tournament, held over the weekend of December 9-11, 2022, included some highly ranked teams from across the province and the U13AA Petes went 4-0-1 to capture the gold medal.  

In Game #1 the Peterborough Petes faced the Kanata Blazers and came out on top 2-1 with goals by Taymon Browne and Connor Caton.  Recording assists were Camden Merrick, Owen Whittington, and Dax Arnott. 

In Game #2 the Petes faced the Ottawa Sting and came back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a tie with goals from Taymon Browne and Dax Arnott.  The goals were assisted by Camden Merrick, Taymon Browne and Rylan Chatten. 

In Game #3 it was the Petes working to a 6-2 win over the Eastern Ontario Cobras.  Goals were scored by Dax Arnott, Max Bailey (2), Lawson Whetung, Sawyer Cook, Taymon Browne with assists from Camden Merrick, Connor Caton (2), Rylan Chatten, James Dueck, Dax Arnott (2), Parker Call

With a 2-0-1 record in the round robin the U13AA Petes finished 2nd of the 10 teams to advance to the semi-finals against the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings.  In a hard fought game, the Petes came out on top with a score of 3-2 on goals by Callum Ashfield, James Dueck and Max Bailey with an assist by Camden Merrick.
  
The semi-final win set the team up for a rematch in the gold medal final against the Ottawa Sting.  

The team came out ready to play with a goal in the first period by James Dueck and a goal in the second period by Sawyer Cook with assists from Max Bailey, Callum Ashfield, and Alex Anderson.  Goaltender Charlie Ruston, who was exceptional in net throughout the tournament posting a 1.40 goals against average, continued to shine as the team held off the Sting for a 2-0 win to capture the gold medal.   

The U13AA Petes have an overall season record of 18-6-8 so far this season.
