Manulife Investments Minor Bantam AA Petes Drop Their Sticks to Serve Their Community
Recognizing that they are young leaders in the community, the Manulife Investments Minor Bantam AA Petes are focused on making an impact. On Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 2:30 - 4:00 pm, prior to their game against the Pickering Panthers, the team will drop their hockey sticks and pick up rakes, shovels and bags to help beautify the 10 acre grounds at The Mount Community Centre.

“For some of our young hockey players, this will be their first community volunteer experience and I’m confident many will continue to give back and pay it forward after they graduate from minor hockey,” says Dave McMorrow, Head Coach. “Playing hockey is much more than just the on-ice fundamentals of passing, shooting and scoring. Hockey has helped positively shape the lives of millions of young Canadians over the years and having minor hockey players get involved in community improvement programs is a great way to further benefit them.”

“In addition to creating good hockey players, we as coaches strive to help our players become good citizens,” says Corey Lester, Assistant Coach. “Being part of a team also means giving back to the community. Toward that end our team has partnered with The Mount Community Centre in this community service initiative. Through doing for others, our players learn the values of teamwork, friendship, loyalty and community involvement. These are valuable life lessons that will serve them well in their years to come.”

"It's wonderful to see the Minor Bantam AA Petes team reach out in the community to make a difference,” says Andi van Koeverden, Director of Strategic Advancement for The Mount Community Centre.  “We are thrilled that this hockey team has chosen to help us and be available for our fall leaf cleanup. This initiative is helping these young people learn lessons of philanthropy - an attribute that will make them good citizens for life. Their involvement is providing a service to the Mount Community Centre that will help us continue to meet our mission and better serve our community."

The Manulife Investments Minor Bantam AA Petes will play two home games this weekend. On Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Kinsmen Arena, they will take on the Pickering Panthers and Sunday, November 12, 2017, at 8:15 pm they will go up against the Clarington Toros at the Kinsmen Arena.
