Jack McVicar Minor Atom AE Petes have a Strong Weekend
The Jack McVicar Professional Corporation Minor Atom AE Petes continued their strong play with a pair of wins on the weekend.

Saturday (Oct 29) saw the Petes hosting the Whitby Wildcats in a matchup that would determine the top spot in league standings.  Whitby came into the game riding a 4 game winning streak and the Petes were motivated to end that streak (having seen their own 9 game win streak ended the week before).

The Petes clearly showed they came to play, when Archer Stalteri opened the on the first shift of the game.  The rest of the first period had a lot of back and forth play, but the Petes were pressing hard and Stalteri managed to score his second of the game with only seconds remaining in the period.

The second and third periods saw the Petes continue to pressure Whitby, while Bradley Montgomery stood tall in goal whenever Whitby did manage to generate a scoring chance.  The Petes managed to blow the game open with a couple of second period goals from Caeden Kent and Riley Hagerman, then put the game away in the third when Tye Hill stepped in from the point and scored his first of the season.

Assists during the 5-0 win went to Riley Hagerman, Griff Coupland, Jack Pacey, Olivia Mercer and Stalteri.

Sunday evening (Oct 30) saw the Petes travelling to Belleville for a matchup with the Jr. Bulls who were fresh off a big win earlier in the week.

The Petes took a few shifts to get their road legs moving, but then started to heavily pressure the Bulls, resulting in three quick goals from Sawyer Spencley, Tristan Lehman and Tobey Skopelianos.

The second period was heavily dominated by the Petes, with goals from Cole Scanlan, Caeden Kent and a second of the game from Spencley.  The Bulls managed to take advantage of a defensive miscue late in the second to bring the score to 6-1 heading into the third.

The third period opened with the Petes continuing their dominance over the Bulls, until they ran into some penalty trouble and spent the better part of the period killing off penalties, including a great 5 on 3 penalty kill where the Bulls only managed one shot on goal.  The Petes weren’t able to put any more points on the scoreboard, but their strong play ensured the Bulls never had a chance for the comeback and the game ended with a 6-1 win.

Assists during the game went to Scanlan (2), Skopelianos, Lehman, Spencley, Kent, Rylan Scott, Olivia Mercer, Riley Hagerman, Griff Coupland and Archer Stalteri.  Brody Bolton was strong in net and picked up the win.

The Petes improved their league record to 10-1 and overall record to 13-3 on the season.  Next up is a Saturday afternoon (Nov 5) home game with the Belleville Jr. Bulls.
