Atom AE Petes managed to even up the OMHA quarterfinal series with a win over
the Whitby Wildcats on Thursday night (Feb. 17).
Following a loss earlier in the week, the Petes came out looking for retribution and controlled play for much of the first period, but still found themselves trailing 1-0 when Whitby managed to find the net late in the period.
The Petes kept up their solid play in the second and it paid off with three consecutive goals by Sawyer Spencley, Tristan Lehmann and Riley Hagerman.
The third period didn’t see any let up from the Petes and Tobey Skopelianos was able to add a mid-period goal that put the game out of reach for the Wildcats and allowed the Petes to skate to a 4-1 win.
Assists during the game went to Olivia Mercer (2), Tye Hill, Caeden Kent and Skopelianos. Bradley Montgomery was solid between the pipes and picked up the win.
The series is tied at 3 points each, heading into a busy weekend that will see the Petes travel to Whitby on Saturday afternoon and return home Sunday for a 3:45 game at the Evinrude Centre.
