Mixed Results for Jack McVicar Minor Atom AE Petes
The Jack McVicar Professional Corporation Minor Atom AE Petes opened the OMHA semi-finals with mixed results on the weekend.

The Petes travelled to Stouffville on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) for their first meeting of the year with the Clippers.  Things looked good early, as the Petes pushed the play in the opening period and managed to open the scoring with a goal from Cole Scanlan as the period wound down.

The second period was much of the same, with the Petes controlling play and pushing hard into Stoufville’s end, but the Clippers managed to take advantage of two fast break opportunities and the Petes found themselves down 2-1 going into the third.

After an early third period goal from the Clippers, the Petes fired back with goals from Tobey Skopelianos, Caeden Kent and Riley Hagerman to put them ahead 4-3. Unfortunately, the lead wouldn’t hold up and Stouffville managed to tie it up and then take the lead for good with a last minute goal that put them up 5-4.

Assists during the game went to Sawyer Spencley, Jordan Garfat, Olivia Mercer, Jack Pacey and Archer Stalteri.

The Petes returned home on Sunday (Feb. 26) and it was evident from the first faceoff that they weren’t going to let this series slip away without a battle. The first period was a replica of game one, with the Petes controlling play and Archer Stalteri knocking home a pass from Riley Hagerman for the go ahead goal late in the Period.

The score remained 1-0 until early in the third when Stouffville took advantage of a power play and managed to tie the game up. The Petes had intense pressure on the Clippers, but couldn’t find a way to bury that key goal, and they found themselves in overtime for the third time in their last 5 games.

Overtime saw a lot of pressure again from the Petes, with Skopelianos and Tristan Lehmann getting robbed of goals on the same shift and Jack Pacey hitting the post with a shot from the point late in the frame, but the game ended 1-1.

The Petes trail the series 3 points to 1 and will hope to even things up when they travel to Stouffville on Wednesday night (Mar. 1).  The next home game is Saturday (Mar. 4) at 3:30 at the Kinsmen.

Thank you to all the fan support the team received for the home game on Sunday. It’s great to see the Peterborough hockey community out supporting each other as the playdowns continue.
