Participate in our Study on Concussion Experiences in Peterborough (City and County)
Dear Peterborough Sport Families:
We are looking for people who have been diagnosed with a sport-related concussion since April 1, 2019. Please consider completing this survey if you are
• an adult diagnosed with a sport-related concussion since April 1, 2019
OR
• a parent of a child who has been diagnosed with a sport-related concussion since April 1, 2019.
The goal of the study is to survey the state of concussion experiences in Peterborough County with an eye to providing the Peterborough Family Health Team with the information it needs to make concussion diagnosis and the return-to-school and return-to-play process more reliable and predictable.
If you follow the link below, you will be taken to an information letter that will provide you with more detailed information about the study. If you agree to participate, you will complete an online survey to report your most recent experience with sport-related concussion. You will be asked specific questions either about yourself or about your child. You will be asked about your concussion, including what signs and symptoms you experienced, how you or your child were removed from play, who diagnosed your concussion, and about some of your experiences as you recovered and returned to play and school.
Your responses will be completely anonymous, meaning that none of the researchers or consumers of the research (Peterborough Family Health Team, Peterborough Athletics Concussion Awareness team, or readers of published concussion research) will be able to identify you or link your answers on the survey to you. The sport organizations you are involved with will not be known to the researchers and participating in the survey will have no effect on your child’s involvement in any sport. This survey will take 15-30 minutes to complete.
Trent University Research Ethics Board has reviewed and approved this study (REB#: 26345).
Please feel free to forward this email to any family, living or participating in sports in Peterborough County, who you know has been affected by concussion since April 1, 2019. Please feel free to contact me, Liana Brown, if you have any questions about the survey.
