Hello PHA Families:
We are still awaiting information/ direction from
OMHA & Lakeshore League with respect to BB/ C designation. As mentioned in
a previous post, BB will be non-contact (ie no body checking) moving forward,
and C will have body checking.
Some options that have been discussed
during recent league meetings are as follows:
- - phase out body checking (ie U14
would be non-contact next season, but U15 & U16 would continue with body
checking)
- - leave BB teams with current
designation for next season (ie no body checking next year);
- - re-designate BB teams as C for
next season (ie body checking allowed).
PHA’s intent is to follow Lakeshore League.
If teams remain BB and Lakeshore does not have a BB division for that age
group, that BB team would play in another loop (eg. York-Simcoe or Vic-Durham).
The same would apply if teams change to C and Lakeshore does not have a C
division.
In the event that PHA is left to make the
decision (ie not directed by Lakeshore or OMHA), we need input from the
membership. If you would like to share your opinion, please email
[email protected]. In the email, list your player’s age group for
the upcoming season (ie U14, U15, U16), & whether or not you would like to
phase out body contact, eliminate body contact & remain BB, or keep body
contact & re-designate as C. Please do not send the reasons for your
decision.
Your responses will be kept confidential,
and used to inform the PHA with any decisions moving forward.
In the event that the decision is to remain
BB (no body checking) or phase out body checking, PHA will review the current
tryout policy to allow players to skip AA & A tryouts in order to try out
for non-contact Rep hockey. PHA fully intends on holding tryouts for U14, U15, &
U16 BB/ C if enough players purchase passports. This does not however,
guarantee that a team will be rostered.
