Long Term People Development



Effective 2018-19 - Game play for the U8 (Minor Novice) age-group (7 year-old) will be Half-Ice 

Effective 2019-20 - Game play for the U9 (Novice) age-group (8 year-old) will be Half-Ice during the first half of the season and transition to Full-Ice during the second half of the season.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM


Developing fundamental movement skills (skating, jumping, twisting, turning) manipulations skills (shooting, puck control) and overall motor skills (agility, balance, coordination) in a fun and safe sport environment that promotes self-confidence.

• Continue to grow their impression of hockey as a positive one for players and parents
• Play/games exist primarily in a modified form – formalized games introduced throughout the season
• Some stream of the players – goal is to have players working with players of like skill to develop confidence and self esteem

Beginning: Practice & Development

  • Practices based on Hockey Canada Curriculum, station based and 75% technical skills with 5:1 Player to Coach ratio
  • Games TBD – Half Ice
  • 0 Tournaments
  • Players to rotate through positions and no full time Goalie

 

December-March: Practice, Development, Games

  • Practices based on Hockey Canada Curriculum, station based and 75% technical skills with 5:1 Player to Coach ratio
  • Games TBD – Half Ice
  • Jamborees allowed after December 1st
  •  Players to rotate through positions and no full time Goalie

  1.  Games are 4v4 plus Goalie
  2.  Games are 2 x 22 mins halves with a 3 min warm up; 1 to 2 min shifts signaled by buzzer for change
  3.  Blue Puck is used
  4. 1 Ref’s
  5. No Score
  6. No offside or Icing
  7. Mandated no more than 30-40 Games over Season including Jamborees

Novice Program for 2019-20

U9 (NOVICE) (8 YEARS OLD) | SEASONAL STRUCTURE


Beginning – Development

  • 16 Practices based on Hockey Canada Curriculum, station based and 75% technical skills with 5:1 Player to Coach ratio.
  • 4 Games – Half Ice
  • 0 Tournaments
  • Players to rotate through positions and no full time Goalie

November to January – 12 Weeks

  • 22 Practices based on Hockey Canada Curriculum, station based and 75% technical skills with 5:1 Player to Coach ratio. 
  •  12-18 Games – Half Ice
  •  Players to rotate through positions and no full time Goalie

January to March – 8 Weeks

  • 14 Practices based on Hockey Canada Curriculum, station based and 75% technical skills with 5:1 Player to Coach ratio. 
  •  8 Games – Full Ice
  •  Players to rotate through positions and no full time Goalie

Novice can participate in either 3 Jamborees before January 15th or Tournaments after January 15th. This can be a combined Jamboree and Tournament as long as it does not exceed 3 and a Max of 12 games.
