Referees
Want to be a Hockey Referee?
Typically, if you were interested in becoming a referee or were new to our area and looking to ref in our region, we would have email
our referee in chief,
Jeff Chartier, who may or may not have been able to provide you with game assignments. At this moment in time unfortunately, due to COVID limitations, we arent exactly sure of the amount of opportunity available to officiate. We currently are trying to provide existing referees from our area, every opportunity to work during these trying times.
The PHA will not be seeking new referees for the 2020-2021 season,
our focus will be on
trying to supply as many hours as possible to our existing referees
. If thing should change we will post here. Thanks so much in showing your interest, good luck during these trying times.
How to Get Started
Officials perform a vital role in the game at all levels are the third team on the ice, without whom the game would not happen. The Hockey Canada Officiating Program is for anyone interested in officiating the game of hockey, from beginners to seasoned veterans. There are six levels in the Officiating program, from those looking to get started to the top tier of officials. The lower levels are designed to get you started in officiating, while the higher levels are open to officials who have advanced through the lower levels and show potential to work the top levels of hockey in Canada, and Internationally.

Information for New Officials
If you have
never
refereed before and you are interested in becoming a hockey referee with the Peterborough Hockey Association, you must attend an OMHA entry level clinic ( usually held in mid-October),
or
attend the OMHA referee school. A third option is to complete a Hockey Canada affiliated agency (GTHL, OWHA,etc) and pay a crossover fee to the OMHA. The fee must be paid and accepted by the OMHA before you would be eligible to officiate in the OMHA.
Before
you register for either the entry level clinic or the referee school, please email Jeff Chartier, the PHA referee in Chief to express your interest in becoming a referee. To provide sufficient experience throughout the year, we are only able to accept a limited number of new officials each year.
Attending a referee clinic does not automatically mean you will be assigned games.
Information for Experienced Officials
If you are an existing referee and have just moved into the area, we would have you email Jeff Chartier, our referee in chief to express your interest in officiating games. Depending on your experience, we may or may not be able to provide you with game assignments.
