PrintTryout FAQ's

This is a working document, and may be amended as necessary.

Below are answers to some tryout frequently asked questions:

I bought my passport. When will I hear from the Coach?
Coaches typically send an email the night before the first day of tryouts at each level (i.e. AA coach will email the night before AA tryouts. A coach will email the night before A tryouts). Sometimes, it will be the morning of the first tryout. Be sure to check your junk folder.

Where can I find my passport number?
Passport numbers are at the bottom of emails sent at the start of tryouts. The coach will also provide you with your number at the first tryout. This may be done verbally or they may write it down on a handout.

My player was released from AA. Why don't I see their passport number on the A list.
New passport numbers are assigned at each tryout level (i.e. AA, A, BB). You will receive your new number in an email from the coach or on the first day of A/ BB tryouts.

Why does the tryout schedule keep changing?
As passport numbers increase, it is sometimes necessary to shift ice times to ensure we run the best tryout process for everyone. It is unlikley that the schedule will change during the tryout week (i.e. AA schedule is unlikley to change during AA tryout week), but you are encouraged to check the tryout schedule daily once tryouts begin.

What if my player is injured, and is unable to participate in the tryouts?
You need to email the AA Coach and copy the Rep Director & VP of Rep before the first tryout to explain the situation. It is the discretion of the AA coach as to whether or not they allow the player to miss one/ multiple tryouts, release the player, or sign the player. The same would apply if released to A.

What happens if I miss a tryout without communicating a reason to the coach?
You will likely be released. This is the coach's decision.

What if I want to be released to a non-contact division (i.e. BB)?
You first need to purchase a passport. Then, email the AA Coach, A Coach, and VP of Rep to request a release to BB to play non-contact hockey. Your player will automatically be released to BB tryouts. If there are insufficient numbers to roster a BB team, you may apply for a full refund.

*This only applies to U15 and U16 in the 2025-26 tryouts.

PHA guarantees three (3) tryouts with the purchase of a passport. If I'm released after one (1) or two (2) skates at AA and choose not to try out for A, can I get a refund?
No. You chose not to participate in subsequent tryouts.

How do I Sign my Offer of Commitment?
To ensure a fair, transparent, and secure process for player commitments to teams within the Peterborough Hockey Association (PHA), the following policy will apply:

1. Commitment Process
• All player commitments must be completed using a secure, private link provided directly by the PHA;
• This link is unique to the current commitment period and must only be used by players who have received a formal offer to join a team.

2. Link Distribution

• Coaches will receive the private commitment link from the PHA for distribution;

• It is strongly recommended that coaches do NOT share the link directly with parents or players until a formal offer has been made;

• Sharing the link prematurely may result in players committing to a team they have not officially been offered a spot on, creating confusion and administrative complications.

3.
Timeliness of Commitments

• The PHA recommends that players commit as soon as possible after receiving an offer in order to secure their spot on the team;
• Delayed commitments may jeopardize a player’s position, as roster spots are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis upon confirmation;
• Registration deposit is required.
• There is a processing fee for all credit card transactions.

4.
Verification and Confirmation

• Once a commitment has been submitted through the official link, it will be reviewed and confirmed by the PHA;

• Coaches will be notified of each confirmed commitment to their roster.

5.
Unauthorized Commitments

• Any commitment submitted by a player who has not been officially offered a position will be considered invalid and may be removed from the system;

• Coaches are responsible for ensuring that only eligible players are invited to commit.
