On Wednesday
night the Petes played host to the Whitby Wildcats (Blue) team. The Petes were looking to improve upon their
7-0 loss in their first meeting with the Wildcats earlier this season. Helping the Petes would be a couple of affiliate
players from the U15 BB team which got approved to play earlier in the day.
The Petes had
a gameplan going into this competition with the Wildcats. The Petes stuck to the plan and were
successful limiting the Wildcats scoring opportunities all the while generating
opportunities of their own. The Wildcats
though would open the scoring with under 40 seconds remaining in the period to lead
1-0 at the end of the first period. It
was a great period for the Petes!
The second
period the Petes continued the same way with he Petes playing some great defense. The Wildcats though took advantage of a Petes
mistake and extended their lead to 2-0.
The Petes continued to battle hard and were not deterred by the score. The Petes then were rewarded with a goal of
their own. The score was now 2-1 in
favour of the Wildcats. The action would
continue back and forth with both goalies called upon to make some big saves. The Petes had moments when they dominated
play in the Wildcats zone but were unable to score any goals of their own. However, with under two minutes remaining in
the period the Wildcats took control of the game and scored three goals in a span
of 1 minute and 15 seconds to hold a 5-1 lead at the end of the second period.
The Third
period was a better period for the Petes.
The Petes came out determined to get the momentum back in the game. The Petes managed to get the puck deep in the Wildcats
end and worked it out of the corner to the front of the net where the Petes
player was waiting. The Petes scored
their second goal of the night, and the score was 5-2. The Petes with momentum seemingly on their side continued to pressure the Wildcats. The game would end with the Wildcats having
multiple players in the penalty box and the Petes on the powerplay. However on this night after a few missed opportunities the Petes were unable to score any more goals.
Highlights
of the night go out to the two U15 BB players, Austin R. and Blake W. Both Austin & Blake showed up to play and
made a lot of positive contributions on the ice. Way to go boys! The U16 BB team appreciates you guys coming out

was in goal for this game and was called upon to stop 47 shots on this evening. Way to go Carter!
