On Saturday night the Petes
played their first playoff game against the Oshawa Generals. The Petes were set to put the past losses
behind them and start a new chapter in their season. The playoffs are when it matters, and all
other games have been practice to get to this point.
The first period started
with some back and forth play with the Generals getting most of the scoring
opportunities. Then after some matching
penalties by both teams the Generals took control of the game. The Petes struggled to get shots on goal and
the Generals started to dominate play.
The Generals repeatedly pelted the Petes goalie with shots and after
five minutes scored their first goal of the night. The overwhelming pressure continued for the
remainder of the period as the Generals asserted their dominance. The Generals would score another three goals
before the end of the first period to carry a 4-0 lead into the second period.
The second period was
much of the same. The Generals with
momentum on their side kept the foot on the gas peddle and continued to pelt
the Petes goalie with shots. The Petes
again struggled to get quality scoring chances as the Generals defense were
able to keep the Petes forwards away for the Generals net. The Generals would score another two goals in
the period to extend their lead to 6-0 at the end of the second period.
In the third period the
Petes hit the ice with the intentions to win the period and create some positive
momentum. However, the Generals would have
none of it. The Generals would start the
period in full control of the game and scored another 3 goals full strength and
1 on the powerplay to increase their lead to 10-0. Then it happened the Petes took advantage of
a Generals mistake in their end. The
Petes got control of the puck in the slot and scored a top corner goal to break
the shutout bid of the Generals goalie.
The final score of the game was 10-1 in favour of the Oshawa Generals.
The highlights of the game for
the Petes were their persistence to play hard to the end and get rewarded with
a goal, in addition to the gametime music which kept the atmosphere lively
& fun.
The Petes next playoff
game is against the Clarington Toros on Tuesday, February 28th @ 8:15 PM at the
Garnet B. Rickard arena.
