Double Feature for the Novice A Petes
This past weekend marked the first double header for the Novice A Petes in the regular season.  Saturday saw the Petes in Pickering against the Panthers.  The game was action packed from the start.  A team they had yet to face, Pickering came out ready for a battle.  The Petes were ready to use all their skills developed in practice and cash in on their banked effort.

During practices, the Petes have been focusing on their passing and positioning and defensive zone coverage.  Their work ethic really paid off throughout this game.  The opposing team could not get past their strong defensive line.  Early on, the Petes figured out the opposing teams positional play and outsmarted them at every turn.  What began as an evenly matched game, quickly turned one sided as the Petes passes were crisp and intentional, forcing the opposition to skate harder to get around the Petes.  Hockey is a game of mistakes – and it helps if you are making less mistakes than the team you are up against.  Thanks to hard skating and head manning the puck, the Petes took the game and came out victorious and proud.

Sunday, we invited North Durham to Peterborough and played what was probably our most evenly matched game to date.  The Petes were tired from the previous day but fought hard to pass and be in the right positions.  After the first half, hardly any goals were seen from both sides but still, the Petes seized any opportunity they could to get to the puck fast and pass.  It was a fast paced, tight fought battle.  All four goalies making great saves to keep the games low scoring. In the end, the Petes were tired but not beaten.  We look forward to facing these teams again and preparing ourselves for the epic battle that is sure to be had.

Go Petes!
