The past 2 Fridays the U9 A Petes faced off against North
Durham at home.
The players had been practicing hard since their last game and were ready to
battle.
The first Friday, the Petes came out very strong, finding the back of the net first.
Players were getting to the net, positioning themselves to be ready for a pass or a rebound. They tried to be first on the puck, and when they weren’t, they battled hard to get it back.
They were aggressive in the corners and aggressive on the puck. The Petes goalies were focussed and stood strong in their nets. The players experienced their first win at both ends of the ice and couldn’t have been more excited.
The next Friday was a rematch, and the Petes were hopeful they could bring the same intensity as the week before. Unfortunately, they didn’t get off to as fast of a start. They may have been experiencing the aftereffects of Halloween and possibly a sugar detox. The first 2 games ended in a draw, and the coaches knew they had to get the players fired up for the next 2 games. They were told to focus on their speed, and their passing
. The Petes improved in the second games, and it showed when they slid the puck past the goalie more times than North Durham.
They are hoping to carry this momentum forward to Sunday when they play face Oshawa for the first time.
