Game Results: Game @ Oshawa Minor Generals
Yesterday, the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes battled the elements and travelled to Oshawa to play the Generals at the Delpark Homes Centre for a matinee game.  So far this season the Petes have played with a short roster, but that would not be the case today.  With only a couple hours before game time the Petes received approval for the Affiliated Players (APs) to participate in games. This in addition to the fresh snow in the air and on the ground set the scene for what would turn out to be an exciting game.

The first period was delayed starting due to a timeclock malfunction. After a few minutes waiting, the Referees decided to start the game with no timeclock instructing both benches they would let them know how much time was remaining in the period throughout the game.   The delay only added to the tension in the arena as neither team has been able to win on their home ice and Oshawa was determined to change that pattern.  The game started with both teams getting a few scoring chances.  Oshawa would open the scoring three minutes into the game.  The Petes as seen in previous games would respond soon after with a goal of their own knotting the game at 1-1.  The first period would continue to be a tight checking affair until the Generals would take advantage of a scramble down low and get a rebound goal to take the lead.  Oshawa would continue to lead until 18 seconds remaining in the first period until the Petes got a beautiful goal and tied the game up 2-2 going into the second period.

Oshawa determined to avoid history repeating itself started the second period inspired and scored the first goal of the period nine seconds after the puck drop to regain the lead.   Oshawa would continue to lead 3-2 until halfway through the period when they would score another goal to take a 4-2 lead.  Oshawa continued to own the period and Adam M. was called upon to make multiple breakaway saves to keep the score close.   Penalties would end up hurting both teams as the Petes and the Generals would score on each of their powerplays, and the second period would end with Oshawa leading 5-3.

In the third period the Petes turned up the intensity and took back control of the game.  Determined to score the Petes would finally be rewarded after seven minutes into the period and close the gap making the score 5-4.  With the momentum of the game in favour of the Petes it looked like a comeback was imminent.  However, the Generals were quick to burst that bubble by answering back with a goal of their own eight seconds after, restoring their two goal lead to 6-4.  With time running out in the game and the Petes continuing to put immense pressure on the Generals, the Generals would end up getting into penalty problems as a result and get assesed two penalties on the same play putting the Petes on a 5 on 3 powerplay.  This was the opportunity the Petes needed.  After a thirty second timeout by the Petes, the powerplay would go to work controlling the puck in the Oshawa zone for almost the entire penalty.  During the powerplay the Generals goalie would get shaken up by a hard shot from the point and had to leave the game and with sixteen seconds left in the penalty the Petes scored to making the score 6-5.  As the period wound down and with only a small amount of time remaining in the second Generals penalty the Petes pushed hard to get the tying goal and would get rewarded two seconds after the penalty ended and tie up the game 6-6.  With momentum clearly in favour of the Petes they continued to push for the win and with a little over a minute left in the game the Generals would receive a too many men on the ice penalty setting the stage for another opportunity for the powerplay to go to work however time would run out and the final score of the game would result in a 6-6 tie.   It was a great team effort by the Petes to battle back and get the tie!
