Warriors Tournament - Semi-Final Game vs Mariposa Lightning
In the semi-finals the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes were matched up to play against the Mariposa Lightning at the Seymour-Hannah Sports Complex.  The Lightning are a team located West of Lindsay.  The Lightning entered the tournament with regular season record of (10-6-1) (wins-loses-ties).  In the tournament the Petes entered the game (2-1-1) and the Lightning with a (3-0-1).  This would be the Petes biggest challenge yet, and nothing but their best would be needed to get the upper hand on the Lightning.

The game started with lightning setting the tone first.  The Petes were on their heels as the Lightning moved the puck with ease through the neutral zone and got shot after shot on net.  As a result of this pressure the Lightning opened the scoring with under ten minutes left in the first period to take a 1-0 lead.  Following the goal, the Petes would have limited chances to score.  And as it so happened to be the best chance for the Petes was negated by a Mariposa player taking a four-minute kneeing penalty.  This thought motivated the Petes to find another gear in their game and momentum began to shift into the Petes favour.  The Petes were able to put together a few scoring chances and came very close to tying the game.  However, the Petes powerplay was unable to score on this occasion and the period would end with the Lightning in the lead 1-0.

In the second period both teams took two penalties each and the penalty killers were called upon to be perfect once again.  No goals would result from the powerplays, and the game continued with some back-and-forth action.  Both goalies were called upon to make big saves in the period.  But a defensive breakdown by the Petes gave the Lightning the opportunity they were looking for and they took full advantage scoring their second goal of the game to increase their lead to 2-0 into the third period.

In the third period a once again confident Lightning team took control of the play.  The lightning riding high from their late second period goal put the pressure on the Petes and forced another defensive breakdown which resulted in another goal to make the score 3-0.  The Petes though not willing to give up pushed back and regained control of the play and got scoring chance after scoring chance but were unsuccessful at putting the puck in the lightning’s net.  Then with under five minutes left the Lightning would be assessed a tripping penalty.  Once again, the Petes powerplay went to work.  This time though the Petes pressure was too much for the Lightning to handle and the Petes scored.  The score was now 3-1 and the Petes were looking for more.  This woke up the Lightning and the game became tighter checking for the remaining three minutes.  The Lightning would be successful shutting down the Petes and the tournament would come to an end with a 3-1 to the Mariposa Lightning.

It was a great tournament for the Petes.  They stepped up and played against some great competition.  Way to go Petes!
