Trent Lakes Plumbing Minor Peewee AA fall short in Kawartha Lakes Semifinals
The Trent Lakes Plumbing Minor Peewee AA Pete’s have played six games in four days.  They started off Thursday with a league game vs. Northumberland Nighthawks.  The team picked up a win 2-0, moving their league record to 2-0-1 in the early Lakeshore season.  Braeden Couture scored the opening goal with assists to Caiden Rogers and Blake Moncrief.  Travis Heffernan notched the second goal after being set up from Aedan Temple and Tristan Boucher.  Antonio Bianco was able to pick up his second shutout in net.

The team then looked to carry that momentum into the Kawartha Lakes AA tournament being hosted throughout the city over the weekend.  The Trent Lakes group took on Burlington Eagles Friday morning.  After jumping out to a great start, the Pete’s could not capitalize and gave up a lead late in the first.  Burlington added to the lead in the second and third for a 3-0 lead.  The Pete’s didn’t give up and with 8 minutes left in the game Jack Burns scored to break the shutout. Assists on the play went to Jack Davies and Katie Belk.  Nathan Sorichetti had a strong game in net keeping the game close at many key points.

Later that day the team looked to rebound vs. a strong Ottawa Silver Seven group.  The home side jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Davies scored on a play set up by Belk and Heffernan.  They held the lead into the second when Ottawa scored two quick goals and took the lead heading into the third period.  The teams then traded many chances back and forth but neither team was able to capitalize with a final score 2-1.  Bianco had a great game in net facing two breakaways late in the game.

Saturday morning the Trent Lakes Plumbing group after some team bonding Friday night bounced back Saturday with a great effort and game vs. Oakville Rangers.  After giving up the first goal to Oakville, Peterborough responded with three unanswered goals to pick up a solid 3-1 win.  Peterborough goals were scored by Braedan Saxby, Davies and Belk.  Assists went to Couture, Davies, Rogers, Ben Gusso, Cameron Reynolds and Kolby Kekki. Sorichetti stood tall in net picking up the win.

After finishing 1-2 in Round Robin the Trent Lakes Plumbing AA had a rematch with the higher ranked Burlington Eagles in the quarterfinals.  This was a much closer game with neither team giving the other much room.  The games first goal came two minutes into the third on the power play from Jack Gauvreau, with assists from Boucher and Moncrief. After a crazy finish Bianco was able to pick up his third shutout in the 1-0 win, sending the team to the tournaments semi final Sunday morning.

In the semi final the team would face an undefeated London Jr. Knights team.  This was a big task but the team was ready for the challenge.  London got two quick goals to open the first, but Heffernan scored one late in the opening period, with Saxby assisting to keep it close.  The Jr. Knights scored two more in the second to take a 4-1 lead into the final period.  Davies was able to score on a power play, with passes from Belk and Kaleb Jamieson.  This was as close as the Pete’s would get finishing with a 4-2 loss to London, who went on to win the tournament.

The Trent Lakes AA’s have an 8-4-1 record and next action is next Saturday when they host Whitby at the Kinsmen.
