Minor Peewee AA Capture Nations Cup Gold Title
The Trent Lakes Plumbing Minor Peewee AA team travelled to Detroit to represent Canada in the Nations Cup Tournament 2008 Gold division.
The Canadian Petes faced off Friday morning vs. Kensington Valley, who were representing the USA side. After a slow start, the Petes scored first, on a goal by Blake Moncrief assisted by Jack Gauvreau. After the USA side notching the equalizer, the Canadians scored three unanswered goals from Braedan Saxby, Travis Heffernan and Kaleb Jamieson with assists to Aedan Temple, Moncrief and Tristan Boucher with two. Antonio Bianco picked up the 4-1 win in net, with a solid performance.

Later on Friday, the Canadian side faced off vs. the home Detroit Jimmie Johns team.  This was a very close game where both teams had many chances to score, but the Petes scored first on a goal by Heffernan set up by Cameron Reynolds and Katie Belk.  Moncrief scored in the second period on a pass from Boucher to give the Canadian side a 2-0 lead.  After the USA scored one, Nathan Sorichetti stood tall shutting the door and securing the 2-1 victory and 4 points for the Canadian side on the opening day.

Saturday morning the team sponsored by Trent Lakes Plumbing faced their toughest competition from the USA side, the Chicago Blues.  The Blues are one of the top ranked teams from USA and proved they would be tough to play by scoring the opening goal in the first.  Gauvearu tied it up in the second on a feed from Saxby and Caiden Rogers.  However, that would be as close as the Petes could get as Chicago scored the goal ahead early in the third and made it a 3-1 final with an empty net goal.  Bianco played great facing a number of shots and rushes throughout.

In the Saturday evening game the Canadian side squared off vs. the Canton Rebels in the final round robin match.  The Petes controlled this game for the most of the match and had a 3-2 lead late in the game after Moncrief,  Gauvearu and Temple scored with assist going to Jamieson, Rogers, and Moncrief. Sorichetti was key in goal stopping a breakaway late in the game keeping the game tied.

The Canadian side was well ahead after the round robin in points and went into Championship Sunday on a high note.  After teams were all ranked and matches set the Peterborough team was to face off vs. the Northwest Chargers.

This was a back and forth match that saw both teams have leads at different time throughout the game.  Braeden Couture and Jack Davies score for the Canadian side on assists to Jack Burns, Colby Kekki, Ben Gusso and Belk.

The Canadian side was ahead in points but it all came down to the final game between the Milton team for Canada and Compuware team for the USA.   Regulation and overtime settled nothing and a shootout was needed.  Milton prevailed and the Canadian side was victorious defeating the USA to capture the Nations Cup.

Congratulations to the Trent Lakes Plumbing Minor Peewee AA team on a great tournament, representing the Canadian side and winning the Nations Cup.
