Game Results: Playoff Game vs Oshawa Minor Generals
Last night the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes hosted the Oshawa Generals in what would be both team’s final playoff game, as well as their last game of the 2021/22 season.   The crowd in the Healthy Planet Arena was larger than normal because of the U15 AAA’s and the U15 A teams both having playoff games on the same night and arena as our game.  The rink was filled with excitement and emotion and the Petes were focused on ending the season on a high note and working hard to get the victory.

The Petes once again as in their previous playoff games took control of the game from the drop of the puck.  The Petes were strong on both the defensive and offensive side of the puck.  The Petes set the tone and pushed the pace getting shot after shot on the Oshawa net minder.  The Oshawa goalie though would be up to the challenge in the first period stopping all the Petes scoring changes.  The Petes were assessed an interference penalty mid period and their penalty killers would be called upon once again, and they delivered shutting down the Generals powerplay.

In the second period the Petes continued to pressure the Generals and were rewarded twenty seconds in with a goal to take a 1-0 lead.  The Petes continued to outwork the Generals until under five minutes in the period when the Generals would pull even with a goal of their own.  The score was now 1-1 and this goal seemed to inspire both teams to raise their game play intensity.  Both teams would score a goal each within the next minute of play and the score was tied 2-2.  However, the Generals continued to ride their wave of confidence and with under a minute remaining scored to give themselves a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission.

After the intermission the Petes were fired up to finish what they started.  The Petes took to the ice, dominated the period, and had most of the puck possession time.  There was an excitement in the air that emulated from the stands, with every hit and shot the Petes fed off the crowd’s energy and pressed even harder to get the tying goal.  The Generals would run into some penalty problems and the Petes powerplay would get a five on three opportunity to score.  The Generals though stood strong and managed to be able to weather the storm.  The Petes had a few scoring chances with the two-man advantage but were unable to tickle the twine.  Tension was in the air as time was running out in the period.  The Petes though not holding back repeatedly bombarded the Generals goalie with shots.  There was an anticipation by all in the building of the Petes scoring.  Then, with a little over four minutes remaining the Petes scored to tie the game.  The score was now 3-3.  The Petes then with just a little over three minutes remaining would find themselves in penalty problems. As the Petes would be assessed two penalties and the Generals one penalty following a scrum out front of the Generals net.  The Petes penalty killers would be called upon once again to be perfect and they were.  The Petes killed off the powerplay and the score at the end of the third period was 3-3.  Overtime would be needed to decide this game.

Overtime started with the Petes asserting themselves offensively.  The Generals resorted to icing the puck repeatedly to get line changes as the Petes overwhelmed the Generals players with their speed and skill.  After six minutes of intense pressure by the Petes, and many scoring chances, the Petes finished off the Generals and scored to get a 4-3 victory.  The building erupted with cheers for the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes.  In a sign of respect between both teams after a great game the Generals and Petes shook hands at center ice.

It was an exciting end to the season.  I am proud of our players.  Even when down they never gave up or lost the motivation to work harder than their opponents.  Way to go Petes!
