The Service Master Restore Minor Peewee AE Petes Picked Up Some Much Needed Points on the Weekend
The Petes entered the weekend with a chance to move into third place in the Lakeshore division. Knowing that every point will factor into placing for the playoffs, the Petes showed poise and focus as they traveled into Quinte for the season’s final meeting with the Hawks.

The Petes got off to a slow start, but steady play from goaltender Adam McGinn allowed the Petes an opportunity to build some momentum, which finally paid off when Sawyer Spencley opened the scoring late in the second with a short- handed goal. The lead would be short-lived as the Hawks tied things up moments later, but this appeared to be the catalyst the Petes needed as they came out flying in the third and broke open a two goal lead on markers from Riley Hagerman and Matthew Sokolski.

The dreaded two goal lead may have lulled the Petes into thinking they had the game in hand, but the Hawks didn’t agree and with just over a minute to go in the game the Hawks managed to score and pull within a goal. With the Hawks net empty and heavy pressure in the Petes zone, Spencley made a great play to get the puck out of their end and was able to gain center ice and deposit the puck into the net, putting the game out of reach for the Hawks and giving the Petes a convincing 4-2 victory.

Assists during the game went to Josh Watson (2), Spencley and Hagerman.

The Petes would have a quick turnaround after a late night in Trenton when they travelled to Whitby on Sunday to take on the Wildcats (White). This would turn out to be a great battle between a pair of teams that had both gained some momentum from strong play at a tournament in Pittsburgh in the week prior.

The Petes continued their weekend trend with a slow start in the first period and found themselves down a goal early.  They would erase this deficit quickly in the second period and pull into the lead off goals from Hagerman and Sam Dickey.

In what was a very one sided third period, with Peterborough applying constant pressure, the Wildcats became benefactors of an ill-timed line change and turnover by the Petes to tie things up in the middle of the frame. The Petes, sensing a point slipping away, finished the game by barraging the Wildcats netminder with shots, but just couldn’t manage to sneak one past him.

With the 2-2 tie, the Petes managed to pick up the point needed to pull into third place in the standings. With five games remaining the Petes are looking to finish strong and set themselves up for a successful playoff run.

The Petes close out their pre-Christmas season with a pair of home games this weekend against North Durham (Dec. 22) and Northumberland (Dec. 23).
