The Quarry Golf Club Minor Bantam AA Petes were Champions of
the Oshawa Cup Tournament this past weekend.
The Petes went 2-2 in round robin play dropping games to the Sudbury Wolves and the host Oshawa Generals by matching 2-0 scores while defeating West Hill 6-1 and the TNT Tornados 3-0. The third place round robin finish set up a semi-final rematch against Sudbury. The Petes dominated play and skated to a convincing 4-1 victory. The next stop on the weekend’s redemption tour was a date with the host Generals in Sunday’s final. The Petes got out to an early 2-0 lead in a competitive back and forth game. Excellent penalty killing preserved the lead until Terry Vokey iced the championship with an empty net goal to give the Petes a 3-1 win and the tournament Championship.
The Petes defensive play carried them through the tournament allowing only 7 goals in 6 games. The Petes continue Lakeshore League play on the road Wed. Oct 23rd in Belleville.
