After returning
from the tournament the Petes had no time to rest as they had a game scheduled with
the Centre Hastings Grizzlies on November 22, 2022. This would be the first meeting between the
two teams ever since the Grizzlies are a team based out of the Marmora/Madoc
region and do not usually compete in the Lakeshore League. The stage was set for the Petes to get their
first win of the season.
The first period was a dominate one for the Petes. The Petes controlled the play from the opening puck drop and applied the pressure to the Grizzlies in their own zone. However, the Grizzlies were able to weather the storm and would end up taking advantage of one of their few opportunities in the period and score to hold a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.
The second period was more of the same. However, in this period the Petes would find the back of the net four times and only allow the Grizzlies to get one goal in the period. The Petes were on a roll and have played two of their best periods this season. The score was 4-2 in favour or the Petes at the end of the second period.
The third period was another story. The Grizzlies hit the ice determined to get back into the game. For the first ten minutes of the game the action was even with both teams having chances to score but unable to do so as both goalies were up to the challenge. However, with under six minutes remaining in the game the Petes tank ran dry. The Grizzlies were able to take advantage of a tired Petes team and scored 4 goals in a span of four minutes. The Grizzlies would maintain the lead and take the victory with a 6-4 win over the Petes.
It was a great effort put forth by the Petes!
