Time to Get Mean
On January 20, the Peterborough Tyke 47’s braved the winter weather and frigid temperature to travel to Cobourg to face off against the Northumberland Nighthawks. It had been over a week since the 47’s had seen any game action, and they were ready to go.

The pre-game talk was on point – it got the players pumped up and ready to go. The game plan objectives were clear – these players had to get mean. They needed to have hard checks, be strong on their sticks, be strong on the puck, don’t get knocked over!! The puck on the ice belonged to the 47’s, and if there was a loose puck they needed to be the first one to it.NXuereb.jpg

This meeting against the Nighthawks, proved to be much more challenging than the last. For the spectators and parents, this was an exciting game to watch. The play was back and forth at both ends of the ice. The 47’s had their heads up more this game, and were passing the puck both forward and back, to engage all players on the ice. Although the 47’s faced two hot goaltenders, they were still able to get the puck between the pipes and hit the mesh at the back of the net.

As a result of a committed team effort, hard work, prolific offence, sound defence and tremendous goaltending the 47’s prevailed.

The hardest working warrior of the game, with a shutout was Nathan Xuereb.

The 47’s are back in action January 27 at the Evinrude Centre where they face Whitby.
