Finally Back on Home Ice
After playing in other cities for the past month and a half, the Peterborough Tyke 47’s were finally back home in their own barn to play against the Whitby Wildcats January 27, 2019. The players were jacked; and who could blame them? They were back on their ice, in front of their home town crowd, and getting ready to play for all of their family and friends.

Pre-game warm up was intense. Pulse Physiotherapy in Peterborough provided off ice training the day before, and carried the momentum of that through to this warm up. They were ready.

The players were given two key areas to focus on – be aggressive and work on passes.

-Be aggressive in front of both nets, lift the other players' sticks, and get the puck out of the danger zone.

-Always be ready to pass the puck and receive the puck, and work the puck to the front of their net, because a 47 would be there.

The goalies were given areas to focus on as well – be outside the net, challenge the players, and keep the rebounds tight.

With the game plan delivered, the 47’s marched out of their dressing room yelling ‘Go 47’s Go.”

The music was keyed up for them to skate on the ice and get warmed up, and they came out flying. They wanted to scare Whitby with their intensity and speed; and did they ever. Right off puck drop,NCassleman.jpg the 47’s took off. They had their heads up, were maintaining their positions and working the puck towards the net. Coaches could hear the players yelling for passes; their communication was key to their success on the ice. Their aggressiveness and ability to work the puck were paramount in scoring goals. The defence had also been encouraged to skate with the puck and be more active in the play. This definitely paid off for Avni Bishop, who scored her first rep goal in the first period.

This game was a real barn burner – it was fast paced, high scoring and exciting for all to watch. Once again, the 47’s came out victorious. They controlled the game and protected their barn. It was a great effort all around by everyone on the ice.

The hardest working warrior of the game was Nolan Casselman.

The Peterborough Tyke 47’s are back in action this coming weekend in Peterborough when they compete in the Tyke Showdown at the Kinsmen Arena.
