Service Master Restore Minor Peewee AE Petes split Weekend Games
The Service Master Restore Minor Peewee AE Petes split their league games over the weekend and moved into second place in the Lakeshore League standings.

The Petes opened their weekend with a Saturday afternoon matchup in Whitby where they faced the unbeaten Whitby (Blue) Wildcats. It didn’t look good for the Petes in the early minutes of the game as Whitby contained much of the play to the Petes end of the ice and managed to open the scoring halfway through the first period.

After battling back, but failing to capitalize on a number of scoring chances, the Petes found themselves down by two when a Wildcats winger managed to fool Nathan Crossley with a fanned shot that just eluded the Petes netminder with five minutes to go in the game.

The Petes kept things close in the dying minutes when James Chandra managed to blow a bar down shot past the Whitby goaltender. With only 10 seconds on the clock, and a faceoff in the Whitby zone, Petes centreman DJ Crough won a clean faceoff back to Jack Pacey, who made a clean pass to his defense partner, Jordan Garfat. With everyone on edge, Garfat fired a hard shot through traffic only to have the Whitby goaltender to make a quick kick save and prevent the Petes great comeback effort.

Riley Hagerman was named as the Petes hardest working player after having a strong game on the wing and working hard at both ends of the ice.

Following the tough loss, the Petes were back on the road Sunday to take on the winless Pickering Panthers. Although the Petes spotted the Panthers a goal in the opening minutes, the rest of the game saw the Petes bounce back and take control of the scoresheet, finishing with seven unanswered goals from seven different players.

Scoring for the Petes in their 7-1 victory were Sawyer Spencley, Matthew Sokolski, Sam Dickey, Riley Hagerman, Josh Watson, Andrew Wasson and Pacey. Assists went to Spencley (2), Watson, Hagerman, Pacey, Will Mattie and Ben Herder.

Adam McGinn was solid in net when tested and was named the Petes hardest working player.
