Last night the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE
Petes and the Oshawa Generals played their last game of the regular season
against each other. On this night the
Petes were energized to get back onto the ice and rebound from their two loses to
the Belleville Bulls on the previous weekend.
With playoff intensity the Petes were ready to go!
The first period started with a scoring chance by the Petes right off the opening faceoff. The Petes continued to pressure the Generals into making mistake after mistake and the Generals goalie was tested often. At about the ten-minute mark in the period the Generals took a slashing penalty which proved to be costly. The Petes powerplay went to work and scored to give the Petes a well deserved 1-0 lead. The Generals continued to take penalties and were lucky that their goalie was able to keep the Petes from increasing their lead. The Petes dominated play and the score at the end of the period was 1-0.
In the second period the Petes would run into some penalty problems of their own and their penalty killers were put to the test. After successfully killing the penalties the Petes would continue to push the pace but were unable to put another puck past the Generals netminder. When called upon Carter K. was up to the challenge turning away every shot the Generals took. No goals would be scored in the second period and the Petes would maintain continue to lead 1-0.
In the third period both teams hit the ice with intention to take control of the game’s momentum. There was action at both ends of the rink. With the score continuing to be only 1-0, both teams knew it was still anyone’s game to win or lose. The Petes determined to close out the game pressed for another goal and were rewarded after five minutes of play making the score 2-0. The Generals on this day would not quit and were motivated to score a goal of their own and with less than three minutes left in the game took advantage of a costly mistake by the Petes and scored to cut the lead in half. With momentum clearly on the General side they pushed to get a tying goal, and in less than forty-five seconds later the Generals would take advantage of another opportunity given to them by the Petes and score again to tie the game up at 2-2. The Petes then attempted to regain the lead and within seconds left in the game had a couple of great scoring chances that just did not materialize. The final score of the game would be a 2-2 tie.
