Game Results: Playoff Game vs Whitby Wildcats
Last night the Peterborough Mr. Sub U15 AE Petes competed in their first playoff game of the 2021/22 season.  On this evening the Petes hosted the Whitby Wildcats which had beaten them in their previous meeting 4-3.  The Petes were fired up to get a rematch with Wildcats and were eager to start the playoffs with a win.  With a solid game plan, the Petes took to the ice prepared and ready to play.

The game started with the Petes putting a lot of pressure on the Wildcats, however the Petes would receive a tripping penalty.  The Petes penalty killers would have to get to work.  After a successful penalty kill the Petes offense took back control of the game.  The Petes imposed their gameplan on the Wildcats and as a result scored the first goal of the game a little over four minutes into the period to take the lead 1-0.  The Petes once again found themselves in some penalty trouble, but the penalty killers were once again up to the challenge and would score a shorthanded goal to take a 2-0 lead.  The Petes continued to outwork the Wildcats and were rewarded with two more goals to extend the lead to 4-0.  The Wildcats though before the end of the period would take advantage of one of their few opportunities and score a goal.  The score at the end of the first period was 4-1 in favour of the Petes.

In the second period both teams would get quality scoring chances and both goalies were called upon to make big saves.  The Petes though would run into some bad luck and be assessed a five-minute major penalty which resulted in the Petes player being ejected from the game with a little over three minutes left in the period.  However, while killing the penalty the Petes would be assessed another two-minute penalty which again resulted in another Petes player being ejected from the game, putting them two players down.  The penalty killers were once again up to the task and successfully killed of the remaining time left in the second period to maintain the 4-1 lead.

After the intermission the Petes successfully killed off the remaining forty-one seconds of the 5-3 penalty and the offense would once again have a chance to take back control of the game.  With momentum on the Petes side they moved the puck with skill and speed and put another three pucks into the Wildcats net and extend the lead further to 7-1.  The Wildcats not willing to give up fought back and scored a couple goals within sixteen seconds of each other to shrink the Petes lead to 7-3.  The Petes though would respond right away with a goal of their own and then shutdown the Wildcats offence and take the victory with a final score of 8-3.
