Minor Atom AA Capture Silver in Nations Cup
The McBain Quarries Minor Atom AA Petes travelled to Detroit over the weekend to represent Canada at the Nations Cup Tournament.  The team started off strong with a 6-1 win Friday morning vs Columbus Capitals. They continued to build Friday afternoon with another convincing 5-0 shut-out over Pittsburgh.  Going in to Saturday the team was in the running for the top Canadian spot and faced Rochester and Cincinatti.

Team Canada, Petes, continued to play a strong game defeating Rochester, 5-0. Going into the Cincinatti game Peterborough was tied with Oakville atop of the Canadian contingent.  However the Petes come out on a mission and beat Cincinatti 9-1 capturing the top spot in the gold division and having the best goals for and against average for all Canadian and USA teams.  Sunday afternoon the team faced off vs the Chicago Jets in the gold medal game and for the over all title, in front of all other minor atom teams, cheering their Nation on.  The atmosphere was similar to that of the world juniors and was an experience of a lifetime for these young players. It was a tight checking battle that saw the Petes come up a bit short loosing the final 4-1.  It was a devastating end to an amazing tournament but the work was not over.  The two teams then faced off in an overtime to decide the winner of the overall Nations Cup as Canada and United States were tide in points after all final games being completed.  Playing four on four the teams traded scoring chance, but Chicago was able to take advantage and got a lucky bounce in the neutral zone and entered the Canadian end with speed.  In a cross over play the USA were able to put the puck behind the Canadian keeper and take the over all Nations Cup.  The Peterborough team left Detroit with their heads held high after going 4-1 and scoring 26 goals and only allowing 6 against.  Congratulations to this group on a great weekend and representing their Nation and Peterborough so well.
